Yā nūr ʿalā nūr
O light upon light,
Azāy mahjūr
How can you be abandoned
Wa anta al-balasam li-jurāḥ wa ālām
when you are the cure for every hurt and every pain?!
Yā risālah min al-Mawlā ta’ālā
You are a message from the Almighty Lord
Maḥfūẓah wa ʿāyishah madā al-ayām
that has been preserved and will remain forever
Azāy nāsiyīn walā naqrā Yāsīn
How can we forget to recite (the chapter of) Yaseen?!
Māshīīn fī ad-dunyā kadā wudāyisīn
Living our lives walking around forgetfully,
Al-kanz qisādunā wa mā shāyifīn
without noticing the treasure that’s right in front of us
Māsh bas kitāb dah dalīl wa ṭarīq
It’s not just a book, it’s a guide and a path
Wa yaḥannu ʿalayka sāʿah mā tudayyiq
that soothes your heart in times of distress
Wa fī ʿizz al-waḥdah bi-baqqā ṣadīq
and when you’re lonely, it is your companion
Anā āyat al-Kursī bi-tḥamīnī
Ayat al-Kursi protects me,
Wa taqrubnī wa tarqīnī
and brings me closer to Allah and elevates my rank
Iqra’ al-Muzzammil alāqīnī
When I read al-Muzzammil, I find that
Dunyatī fī al-Qur’ān dah wa dīnī
my life and faith lie within this Book
An-nūr ḥawālīyā hunā wa jambī
The light is all around me and right here beside me
Wa anā lih biba’d kadah ʿan Rabī
So why do I stray away from my Lord?
Dahu midād kalāmātuh madad qalbī
For His words nourish my heart,
Wa bīkūn mujrūḥ wa yashfīnī
and heal my wounds when I am hurt
